Week in Review (1)

Random Thoughts

We will see how long I can keep this up for... It would be nice if even if I don't blog the rest of the week I can maintain Sunday's... It is a good excuse to blather on about things, right? The year has started pretty quiet so far, but I have been blogging AND reading. That's a good start, right? Maybe 2015 will be more balanced than 2014 and I will get back to things I enjoy and sort of neglected last year... They don't have to dominate my time, but it would be nice to include them... And, blogging and reading are just a good way to keep up with people. We will see how it goes!

Graphic Novel Year

One of my goals for 2015 is to not have a single unread graphic novel by the end of the year. I just kind of fell behind in basically everything last year! I am off to a good start even though they are rereads. I wasn't entirely sure where I was in The Unwritten by Mike Carey, so I decided to start from the beginning because I got the latest two volumes for Christmas. So far I have read five of them! (Two were in 2014) and started a new series... Yes, well, at least it is technically caught up because book 2 isn't out yet...

1. Ms. Marvel - Volume 1: No Normal by G. Willow Wilson
2. The Unwritten - Volume 3: Dead Man's Knock by Mike Carey
3. The Unwritten - Volume 4: Leviathan by Mike Carey
4. The Unwritten - Volume 5: On To Genesis by Mike Carey

Audiobooks

I am finally listening to The Snow Child  by Eowyn Ivey. Really good so far!

Currently Reading

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
Bad Feminist: Essays by Roxanne Gay
By the Book: Writers on Literature and the Literary Life from the New York Times Book Review
The Unwritten - Volume 6: Tommy Taylor and the War of Words by Mike Carey

Weekly Reading

(January 1, 2015) - Loved this comic! A great start to a series. I am very excited to get the sequel a bit later this year. I am all for series with strong female characters and I think this one has a lot of potential. (Graphic Novel)

(January 1, 2015) - I am still thinking about this one... It was a bit different. I enjoyed it, though. I am not sure it knocked my socks off, but I am glad I read it and enjoyed the art. (Not really sure.)

(January 3, 2015) - (A Reread) - In an attempt to catch-up in this series, I decided to reread the ones I had read before. I am enjoying this series more with the reread than I did with initial read through. (Graphic Novel)

(January 4, 2015) - (A Reread) - Another volume in The Unwritten series in my attempt to catch-up on the series. (Graphic Novel)

(January 4, 2015) - (A Reread) - Another volume in The Unwritten series in my attempt to catch-up on the series. (Graphic Novel)

  1. Great week of reading! I really really need to get caught up with The Unwritten. I've had Visions out from the library and am down to no renewals, so I need to get to that too. But I have so many other books I want to read too! Started Ms. Marvel on my tablet (I bought Marvel Unlimited for my birthday this year) and need to get back to it.

  2. Ooh, what's By the Book like? It sounds interesting. I so want to read Station Eleven this year! And Fool's Assassin......I want to read it now, but it's in Hardcover.....I like paperback better, it's easier to carry. I love this series so much that I don't want to wait, though! Let me know how good they are :-) You're reading some good books already.

    1. It's a bit dated in the sense that it talks about things in the present so might not 'last' but I am liking it so far! Station Eleven is good so far. I am not sure when I will get to the Robin Hobb because I kind of want to read the other books again...

  3. It sounds like you had a good week of reading, Kelly! I wish I could say the same. I haven't had much time to read.

I am looking forward to reading Station Eleven at some point and I'm really curious about The Secret History of Wonder Woman.

I hope you have a great week!

    1. I am not entirely sure when my 'reread' ends and reading for the first time begins... I might not remember exactly where I am to be honest! And, yes, I am all caught up in SAGA and I LOVE it!

  5. Great week. I need to get reacquainted with THE UNWRITTEN as well. I *think* I've read the first three. Maybe only the first two? See how bad I am?

    1. I had to reread because I had no idea where I was in the series... And like I told you on Twitter it is clicking with me more this time through!

  6. YAY! I'm glad you're going to do these posts again, Kelly! I always enjoy reading them. And it's nice to see you come back to blogging just as I'm finally getting my act back together to read blogs again. (Last few months of 2014 just sort of sucked all-around.) And I'm very happy that I have a few more of your posts to catch up on here!

  8. I've been catching up with The Unwritten too! I got the first six volumes for Christmas, to my tremendous joy, and I read all of them. Now I need 7 through 10 and then I can be happy! (Do you know how many volumes there are going to be total when it's finished?)

    1. I have no idea, actually. I am sure it will be like FABLES and will come to an eventual conclusion... It's not as popular as FABLES, though, so it could fizzle sooner rather than later.

  11. I loved The Snow Child! The writing was just beautiful. Hope you're enjoying it! I'm giving graphic novels another try with Relish by Lucky Knisley. I had read her earlier book and didn't love it but I'm really enjoying this one. Have a great week!

  12. What do you mean by not having a single unread graphic novel? do you mean that is IN THE HOUSE? on your shelf? Cuz this is my hardest category. They just do not cross my path so I never see these. well, and I don't buy books (almost exclusively an online buyer) so I'm not in book stores, I guess. I also can't imagine graphic novels in digital. Something now that I think about it... Do you read this on your kindle? Why have I always assumed that graphic novels must be physical?! Maybe that will change now that I live in an area with actual bookstores again...

  13. What a fantastic reading week! I agree with you on Ms. Marvel, Camelot, and Through the Woods. The rest I haven't read. Have a good week!
