The Library at Night

So, I read a few pages of this book, and now, I want to TRY and inspire people. The opening pages of the book are the author explaining both his dream library and the library that he had to create because of the space he had. So, I was hoping, people would share their dream libraries. You can spend any amount of money, have any amount of space.

What is your dream library?

You don't have to post it in the comments, it can be something that people post on their blogs. I think it sounds like fun, but most of my discussion questions fizzle and die. Let me know if you do it so I can read it!

And, I tag everyone that reads my blog, so no getting out of it. :)

I will post mine after I run to the mall, have to get a birthday present for my boyfriends father.

So, put your thinking caps on!

Well seeing I dont have a blog I will post my reply here.

Ok to start it would have floor to ceiling book cases running the length of three walls they would be in a dark wood and have those ladderts that slide along the bookcases. Then the fourth wall would be all glass looking over a garden with roses and lots of green grass. It would have really plush white carpet and then one chair that you can curl up in and with a small side table to put my teacup and pot of tea. I may put a small radio but NO TELEPHONE. I would then fill it with every book I could ever want.

  2. Louise? Are you inside my head?? I'll add in the fireplace and the large wood table with loads of pretty stationary to take notes on the books I'm reading. I also need a daybed of some kind to stretch out on to read. Sigh...why oh why is this only a dream????

  3. I'm working on mine! I will post it soon!

Such a lovely thing to think about on such a dreary day :)

  4. I am enjoying everyones answers so far. I will post mine after class today. I ran out of time to do it yesterday!

  5. Have you seen Beauty and the Beast? Disney version. Yeps. That's me. An antique library in an antique castle filled with antique, collectables and first editions.

    I am slobbering already. LOL.

  6. Mailyn, you stole mine! That has been my dream library since I was little and saw that movie! That's actually my favourite Disney movie because Belle reads. I would make a few changes to it, though, which I will post about momentarily.

Hi Kailana! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and linking me.

I am going to post my dream library on my blog on Thursday. I really want to think about this and I have to get two exams and two essays I have due tomorrow out of the way.

This is a great question! :)

  8. You'll probably see my post over at Heather's blog, but I mentioned Carl's dream library sounded just about perfect apart from the fact that you'd need hired help to dust all those wonderful books. Actually, now that I think about it . . . add glass doors to those shelves and that will eliminate half the dust. LOL

We actually looked at a house with a sunken room that was used as a library. It looked very turn-of-the-century upper-class - glass doors on all the bookshelves with criss-cross leading and hardwood floors. Gorgeous solid wood and trim everywhere. It was awesome, but the house itself was kind of scary, with exposed wiring hanging out of some of the switches. It actually had a ballroom and was probably 4000 square feet with the attic but no way could we have afforded to fix everything! And, I was sure it was haunted, after I looked at that half-finished attic with peeling, yellowed wallpaper that looked 100 years old. It gave me the creeps.

    But, wow, that library . . .

    Great post, Kailana!!!

I just found you through A High and Hidden Place. I just love the question. I have posted about it on my book club blog

  10. Well - as you know I have my dream library :) and it is a wonderous place. I built it myself with major help from my sister. Actually, it should be the other way around - she built it with major help from me. There are books on every wall - from floor to ceiling. I had to buy a little step ladder to reach the highest ones. I have a stero system in it to listen to music and a nice comfie book chair. Now I'm working on decorating the tops of the shelves - until I cover them with books too.

  11. The Beauty and the Beast library is my favorite too!

I am so sorry, but I turned anonymous commenting off. I have had it from the very beginning, but that is how the spam is getting by my spam filter at the moment. If it is a big deal I will turn it back on and moderate all comments. I also changed moderation from older than 14 days to older than 7.
