Book Purchases - A Trip to the Thrift Shop

Okay, I know that I really don't need anymore books, but it has been like two years since I splurged at the thrift store on books. So, while I admit that I don't need any of the books that I bought, I still had a lot of fun and will go back to avoiding the thrift shop again! You have to see what I got, though:

Sweetness in the Belly by Camilla Gibb
Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
paddy clarke ha ha ha
by Roddy Doyle
Remembering the Bones by Frances Itani
Bloodheir by Brian Ruckley
Cereus Blooms at Night by Shani Mootoo
Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian
Can You Hear the Nightbird Call? by Anita Rau Badami
The Plot Again America by Philip Roth

There were so many good books there it was a bit overwhelming! I had to put some back... It was also buy four and get one free, which was really nice! When will I find time to read them? Great question! I really have no idea...

  1. I hadn't bought of going to the thrift shop for books. Might be a bit dangerous for me.

    You got some great books!

  2. A few more books won't make your TBR piles fall over. At least not yet. ;-) It's that kind of thinking that always gets me in trouble.

  3. Well, even if you don't have time to read them now, hopefully you will someday! And then they will be waiting. =)

Oh, I love thrift stores -- more than half of my books are from them. TBR piles are toppling over as we speak.

But I'll read them all. Eventually.

You got Oscar Wao. WOW. (Ok, pun really not intended.)

  5. I just got 2 of my first thrift shop books (have nothing against them I just can't get to the stores!) I got a fat (4 story) book of Agatha Christie's and a single book of hers of Murder on the Orient Express

  6. I wish my thrift shop had books that good!!! Sometimes I wander over (despite my book buying ban), but I never see anything to tempt me. I've only read Cereus Blooms at Night, but it was awesome!

I have Oscar Wao on my TBR case.

You're allowed to splurge every once in a while. ^-~ Your TBR pile might be so high a few more books won't really make that much of an impact, though. That'd scare me. I'd finally got my TBR pile below 200 and poof! three more books arrived and undid all my lovely work.

Only heard of two of the books on that list, though. :( I hope you'll enjoy them whenever you get to them! ^-^

  10. You found some good books there! And how funny that you came across a copy of Remembering the Bones.

It's been awhile since I've made a trip to a thrift store for books - I used to go all the time to get books for BookCrossing.
