Friday Reads - 9th Edition

My reading is all over the place this week! I am not organized at all... It's just been a strange reading week. I need to get organized! I think I am aiming for too many projects.... We will see what happens!

This Week I Am Reading:

The Monk by Matthew Lewis - This book counts for the R.I.P. Challenge and it is one of the books on my Reading Swap list, so I figured I should get around to reading it! It is pretty good so far!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - This is for the R.I.P. Challenge, too. It is really good so far! I expect to finish it in the next couple days. I find I really enjoy books about circuses.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke - I am DETERMINED to finish this. Since I expect it will take me a while, it really could go more for On-Going Reading, but oh, well! It's really good and when I started it a couple years ago I thought the same. This time I am DETERMINED to finish it! I want to read Drood in October.

On-Going Reading:

Storm Front by Jim Butcher - We have to read 9 chapters and I have read 3. On the one hand I don't want to get too far ahead, but on the other hand I don't want to leave things to the last minute. The post isn't even due to go up until the 19th. This is actually a reread for me. Hopefully it will inspire me to read book 2... I wanted to back when I first read it, but still haven't.

Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman - I have actually read the stories for the next two weeks all ready. Where we are coming up with our own posts and I don't have to answer questions, I figured I would read when I get a chance. It leaves room for other things.

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien - This is my group read that I am behind in! I have only read the first four chapters. I left it too late to start it... Hopefully I can pull it together tomorrow and read the other four! Another reread. I am amazed at this rereading thing this year!

Fearless Girls, Wise Women, and Beloved Sisters edited by Kathleen Ragan - I am still reading this bleeding book... It is almost a form of torture. I am determined to finish, but we are so behind now I am not sure if we will ever finish! It doesn't help that I read the stories and then forgot to ask questions, so now we might be even further behind...

  2. That's a terrific list of books. One of these days I'm going to set aside a month - or two - and read Jonanthan Strange. I *will* do it. The Monk looks good, will be interested to hear about that.

  3. I have wondered about the Monk, so I will wait patiently for the review.

I sent fot Night Circus, glad to hear that you are enjoying it!

oh lord help me! Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell... I read the first 250 probably 3 or maybe even 4 yrs ago and promised myself I would go back to it.. back then I wasn't as into gothic mystery as I am now.. I really need to try it again.. but I don't think I could read two such huge books in a row as that one and Drood.... but I do so love Drood! lol

  4. **Chris: It is pretty good so far. Very atmospheric... I look forward to reading more today.

**Cath: I am really enjoying Jonathan Strange. I am reading about 50 pages a day right now, but I am sure once I get further into it I will read more at a time.

**Pat: I know. I started Drood when it came out and was enjoying it, but it is just so long! I figure I will do what I am doing with Jonathan Strange, read a bit each day, and see what happens.

  5. I'm happy you're liking The Monk!

I have The Night Circus on hold from the library, both the physical and audio version, but both are still in the process of being bought so it might be awhile before I get it. Ah well. I just hope it'll be before RiP ends!

  7. I really enjoyed Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. In fact, I could hardly put it down when I read it. It's funny, isn't it, how many fantasy readers though are having a tough go of getting through it? A bit like me vs the world on Cornelia Funke - everyone loved Inkspell, and I yawned and thought it was not very great at all. Though I do have her Thieflord on my shelf, so I'm willing to give her a go. I hope you get to a place in Jonathan Strange that makes you read right through to the end! lol :-)

  8. That's a great list of books! I couldn't get into Jonathan Strange, but have to admit that I didn't try very hard since it was going to be such a big time commitment if I did get into it!

The Night Circus was REALLY good!!!!

**Amy: Yes, I will send them to you later today. I am slow!

**Susan: I am enjoying Jonathan Strange for the most part. I am around 300 pages in so far.

**Jo Wesse Moll: I know! Big books are just too big of an under-taking for me...

  10. I want to read The Night Circus; it is on my list. I couldn't get into Jonathan Strange and felt bad because so many people loved it, and it wasn't doing a thing for me.

  12. **jenclair: The Night Circus was really really good! That's too bad about Jonathan Strange. I am enjoying it enough to keep reading, but I actually think I enjoyed it more the first time I started it. I regret not finishing it back then...

**samantha: I was surprised how much I had forgotten, too. Like Bob, how could I have forgotten about him! I have read the chapters, too. I could read on, but I don't want to get too far ahead.
