It Finally Happened!

Last night, I finally got to watch Across the Universe! I have wanted to see that movie for months, and I have been waiting and waiting for it to come out. The other night while I was driving by the movie theatre I saw a sign that said it was finally opening this weekend, so you can imagine I was very excited! I was supposed to go see it Saturday night, but we had a bit of a snow storm and that area of town ended up losing power. So, I finally dragged one of my friends to see it yesterday. I think it was sort of fitting, since one of the themes of the movie is the Vietnam War, to watch it on Remembrance Day. So, what did I think of it? I loved it! There were a couple eye-brow raising scenes, but they worked because this was the 70's afterall! I am not sure what my friend thought of it, but I will be buying it when it comes out!

  1. I'll be buying it too when it comes out on DVD! It's one of those movies that I could watch over and over again. It was such a visually appealing movie and I loved the way that she translated the Beatles' songs. So well done! And you're right, it was the perfect movie for Remembrance Day (in the US, it's Veteran's Day which is celebrated today!)

  2. I remember you liking it. I was so mad you got to see it way before I did! haha The good thing about having to wait so long for it to show in theatres is it should be less time to wait for the DVD. :)

  3. I'm so happy you finally got to see it and that you enjoyed it. This is one unfortunately I will probably not get to until it comes out on DVD. There is just too much going on. At least when that time comes I know it will be a rental I won't be disappointed with.

  5. I have not seen the movie yet, but is it the Korean war? I was sure, given the time period of the British Invasion and the Beatles, it was Vietnam.

However, if it is Korea I am even more intrigued. Canadians served to some extent in Vietnam ( by those who rushed over the border to enlist ) but were far more prevalent in the Korean War...keeping in the spirit of Remembrance Day and all :)

I went to the cenotaph in Ottawa for the first time. It was very moving ( and packed ) to be in the Nation's Capital for Remembrance Day. Although I do remember Halifax having an amazing service when I went a few years back.

  6. Oops! Korean war was a typo! I must change that when I get home. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.
