Reason for Reading: Rhinoa's Manga Challenge, New Author Challenge

This much-anticipated original prequel to Jim Henson's fantasy masterpiece is set 100 years before The Dark Crystal, the groundbreaking film that won the hearts and minds of fans all over the world and set the stage for the new age of muppet-making.
I received this in the mail earlier in the week and I really wanted to read it, but I waited until Rhinoa's Challenge officially began. I love Jim Henson. He did some really great things during his lifetime and the legacy continues. I am glad I didn't read this book when it came out, though, because for something 'much-anticipated', it sure took them long enough to release book two! I see that it will be out in March of this year. I don't find that mangas do really well the first book. The ones I have read, it always takes the second or third before I get really interested, so it was not their best marketing plan to wait two years before releasing the next book!

I really like the movie The Dark Crystal. I normally watch it every year at Halloween, but I actually forgot to this year! It came to mind when I watched Labyrinth the other night. (I like The Dark Crystal so much better than that movie, by the way!) Once this series gets going, I can see it being something that I will really enjoy, but if it going to take two years per book, I am never going to make it! I want to see everything get tied together. Lahr and Neffi appear to be the two main characters. I have enjoyed them so far, but we are still really just getting to know them.

I love the land of make-believe, and I think that this was a fun read! I look forward to future books in the series. I still plan to read Labyrinth in the future, but I wish it was this series that had three books out!

  5. I will have to see how things go. If it takes forever for the books to come out I might get fed up and not read it anyway... We will see!

I really enjoyed this and am so glad there is a date for book 2 finally! You should read the Return to Labyrinth ones which are excellent as well. Book 3 of the Labyrinth series is due out April now I think.

  11. I am glad there is a date for book 2, too! I plan to read Return to Labyrinth, but the website that I shop on doesn't have the first one. I am going to have to order it elsewhere, but with me having gift cards, I would rather use them than spend money at the moment. :)

  12. Eeek! I'm so jealous - Dark Crystal is my very favorite Henson movie. The Skeksis always scared me as a kid. lol
I'd heard about a planned sequel to the original, but that was a few years back.
