I think it is safe to say that I will probably read the entire Fables series this year. Normally when I get books online, I get an email saying they shipped. There was no email this time, but when I got home there were THREE packages stuck between the doors! One of them was from Chapters, so you know I did a little happy dance as I tried to stick the key in the lock to get in out of the cold. I am now the proud owner of books 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the Fables series!
I also have book seven. I was going to order it online, but for some reason it took like two weeks to ship! The bookstore in the city had a copy, though, and my mother works in the city, so I got her to pick me up a copy. She said she had the worst time. She knew the title, but she doesn't read, so she had no idea what she was looking for. I just told her to ask someone that worked there! Well, I get a phone call because they don't have the first clue what they are looking for. They know the bookstore has two copies, but that was about the extent. Honestly, how do you work in a bookstore if you don't know anything about books? My mother said it wasn't their section, but, still! I know lots about all kinds of different books, even if I don't necessarily read them! Anyway, so in the end they tracked me down a copy. Yay!
I mean, what is not to love about this series? Book Three has a cast of characters in the front:
King Cole
Snow White
Prince Charming
Rose Red
Bigby Wolf
Boy Blue
Briar Rose
Bluebeard
Goldilocks
Flycatcher
Jack Horner
And, those are just the main characters. There are lots of secondary characters! So, this is my kind of series! The stories are great and the art is fantastic! I really wish I had read this series three years ago when I first heard about it, but that just means I have lots of catching up to do!
Oh, and the other two packages contained:
The Well-Dressed Ape: A Natural History of Myself by Hannah Holmes (Chris, you might be interested in this book. You read Stiff, didn't you? The blurb compares this book to it.)
Men of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong
The Born Queen by Greg Keyes
And, yesterday I got:
Man of the House by Ad Hudler
We Bought A Zoo by Benjamin Mee (which, I don't remember requesting, but in any case...)
Um, yeah, why did I join the library again? I better get off here and go see if I can read a couple books! I think everything I am currently reading is going to be put aside for Fables anyway, but I am reading Watchmen right now, though, and I am really liking it! (The link is Nymeth's review. It just showed up on my bloglines as I was writing this post.)
Ooh, Fables! The books only get better as they go along. I'm currently waiting for volumes 10 and 11, (I think?), to come in for me at the library.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I considered to just reading the rest through the library, but I think I will want to reread them, so it would be nice to own them all!
ReplyDeleteGotta love it when the mailman comes :D
ReplyDeleteI need to immerse myself in Fables too. Can you believe I've had books 7-10 since Christmas and haven't read them yet? There can only be one explanation for this: I am insane :P
You are insane! I will be caught up with you before long. lol (Just kidding!) I am excited to read them. I am reading the third one right now. :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought a Fables book, but I'm too tired to see which one. It's fun, so far. Enjoy your treasures!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good series. I just finished book three.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! All your new books sound great.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am looking forward to reading them.
ReplyDeleteWait! Let me get my pen out so I can take notes. Okay!
ReplyDeleteThe Well-Dressed Ape sounds interesting--especially since you mention it's compared to Stiff. And Men of the Otherworld--a definite must.
Enjoy your new books!
I'm so jealous! LOL...I can't wait to read more Fables. I'm about to start Volume 3 soon...but I still have to gather up all of the other ones. The Well-Dressed Ape sounds fantastic! I haven't read Stiff yet, but I've read one of Mary Roach's other books, Bonk. I have stiff though! I'll be getting to it soon.
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know I have awarded you a blog award :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've got an here! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you! I so hope I get to Fables this year. I have to ILL each copy, but I'm not going to let that stop me this time.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, everytime I'm on the computer I'm thinking how many chapters I could be reading instead.
Fine. Talk me into it. Looks like Fables is going to be a must read for me this year!!
ReplyDeleteDang. Talk about a great haul!! Glad to see you joined the library though. I heart my library!
Literary Feline: Both of those books will be out January 27th, I believe. I think I will probably read the Well-Dressed Ape chapter by chapter starting in the next couple days! And, I am really interested in the male version of Armstrong's series. Even though I still have older books to read, it will probably be moving up the pile!
ReplyDeleteChris: I read Volume 3 of Fables last night and I almost finished Volume 4. Now, I need to decide if I am going to continue or stop for a bit, simply because I have to buy the rest after I have read seven and I think I have bought enough books lately! And, I guess I was close on the book recommendation. Right author, wrong book!
Clare: Thanks! I will be sure to check it out.
Ana: Thanks to you too!
Nicola: I really hope you get to read Fables this year. I think it's a great series! My guilt about reading is worse when I am posting about all the books I just got, and I am on the computer instead of reading them!
Stephanie: I hope you get a chance to read Fables! I love it so far!
Oooh, you lucky, lucky girl! I'm just going to have break down and buy the Fables books, too. I just loved the first one so much!
ReplyDeleteDebi: I hope you do break down and buy them! There are a few new releases here and there I plan to buy this year, but otherwise those are the only books I know I will be buying for sure!
