The Top Reads... so far

Other people have been doing this, so I thought I would try and figure out what my top reads so far this year are. That is actually really hard, you know! As of the end of June, I read 192 books so far this year. That being said, I liked a lot of the books that I read this year. As for loving, though, I have only loved five. They are:

The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson

Old Man's War by John Scalzi

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

The Love We Share Without Knowing by Christopher Barzak

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Honourable Mentions: Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

There would be lots of books in the 4 to about 4.75 range, though. They just wouldn't get a 5. Unless I read a lot of really good books the second half of the year, it is likely that these five will be in the top reads at the end of the year.

Favourite Graphic Novel: Black Hole by Charles Burns

Favourite Graphic Novel Series:

Fables Series by Bill Willingham, etc. - I love this graphic novel series. I had't read it before this year. While some are better than others, this is a series that has to be read in order so you know what is going on. That makes it hard to pick a favourite, because they are all important.

Favourite Manga Series:

Tie between Emma by Kaoru Mori and The Dreaming by Queenie Chan

  1. Fun post!!! You know what really has me excited? Of your top five reads, I've only read one so far, but own three others...which, of course, means I've got some mighty good reading to look forward to! Plus I've got Black Hole and more Fables on my shelves to get to...oh, so much book goodness and not enough hours in the day. *sigh*

  7. Of your top five, I have read and loved two and have the other three on my wishlist. How exciting to know that they're fantastic!

It's really hard to narrow down favorites when you've read so many books. I think I've hit 149 and didn't even try to pick favorites.

  10. I picked up Black Hole from Amazon and cannot wait to open it up.

Unfortunately I just devoured close to 13 graphic novels in the month of June and might be putting it off to the side so that I might better appreciate it after a GN break. :)

  11. Thrilled to see Old Man's War on there. And each of the 4 books in the series just gets better and better in my opinion. Love it!

  12. goodness that is a lot of books! I haven't counted recently, but I've read somewhere around 60ish books I think so far and that is including A LOT of graphic novels.

I've also read Old Man's War and The Adoration of Jenna Fox, and I agree, those are great reads. Great recs!

  13. Debi: You have some great reads ahead then, Debi! I know what you mean, though. So much that I want to read and so little time in which to do so!

Shanra: lol, I know! I added some from all the lists, so I can relate... Still, felt like doing my own. :) Pay back time, right?

Ana: I love that we have similar taste. :)

Staci: Hopefully more great reads! I hope you enjoy the books when you get to them. I look forward to your thoughts!

Aarti: The Forest of Hands and Teeth was great. I hope you enjoy!

Meghan: Yeah, I had a really hard time picking favourites!

Memory: They were both so good! I hope you enjoy them!

Suey: I don't know how. Good question... I hope you enjoy both of them when they come in for you!

Christina: Yeah, I read a lot of graphic novels at the beginning of the year, so I sort of quieted down for a couple months. I can relate!

Carl: I look forward to more from him! I just need to get them... I am going to buy, so hopefully I will soon.

Kim: Glad you enjoyed both Scalzi and Jenna Fox. :) I read a lot of graphic novels, too.
