Sunday Book Coveting - What to Buy!
Saturday is my birthday and I know I am getting gift cards for the bookstore. This means that I have been formulating my book purchases in my head for days now. They are coming from Chapters, a Canadian bookstore, which has the annoying policy of charging shipping fees for pre-ordered books regardless of how much money you spent. I wonder if Chapters reads blogs because if they do, I should point out that I am getting my gift cards for Christmas from AMAZON. Yes, you essentially lost my business, but whatever...
So, now you are going to be subjected to me posting about what I could wind up buying in the next month or so!
The only book I know for sure that I am getting is Going Bovine by Libba Bray. I forgot to preorder it! It is out now, but I am making myself wait for my birthday.
I also think I will probably get Dreams Underfoot by Charles de Lint. The library doesn't have and it is technically the starting point for the Newford series, so I should give it a try, right?
Then, there are two preorders: The Maze Runner by John Dashner and Peter & Max by Bill Willingham.
If I was really good, that would be my list! I imagine just those four books are going to go over my gift cards anyway... But, just out of curiousity... Any suggestions?

Dave Eggers novelization of Where the Wild Things Are comes out in October! I'm really looking forward to that one..I think it'll be cool. You have some great books on your list though :) It should be Kailana week in blogland for your birthday :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you're good, Kelly! Pre-planning! I like that. :-) I wish I could help you. I'm still trying to decide how I want to spend my remaining gift cards from my birthday.
ReplyDeleteMmm... Pre-planning goodies...
ReplyDeleteWho am I to mess with made plans? No, nope. No suggestions from me! (Although I do heartily recommend Twilight of Avalon and The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by default. ^-~)
You should try The Book Depository, I use them for nearly all my online book purchases these days, free worldwide shipping as well!
ReplyDeleteHaven't got any book suggestions for you, but I think The Maze Runner will be making it on to my crimbo-presents-for-myself list, I've heard such good things about it.
That's a good point about the Chapters pre-order shipping thing, I've been using Chapters less in the last year because their shipping times are not exactly as quick as they say. Amazon on the other hand is super-fast (and better selection of small press too.)
ReplyDeleteDreams Underfoot! That's on my next order too. Haven't seen it in store anywhere but I have 3 or 4 of the later Newford books, which makes me want to start the series all the more :)
Happy book shopping!
ReplyDeleteYummy, yummy books! I didn't realize Libba Bray has a new out one. Bad, Andi!
ReplyDeleteI might have a conniption if you do not add Guy Gavriel Kay's Lions of Al-Rassan or A Song for Arbonne to your library with your upcoming gift cards. Honestly, I can just get you a copy for your birthday myself, if you don't!
ReplyDeleteOooh, a new Libba Bray book?! Hurray, thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest taking a look at The Little Stranger and The Forgotten Garden if you haven't read them already.
Happy (early) Birthday!
DREAMS UNDERFOOT is really good! I read it last year and have been meaning to read some more Newford stuff ever since. (I'll let you guess how that's going).
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get The Maze Runner as I've heard nothing but raves about this book!
Oh what's that Libba Bray book about? It's not part of her series is it?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love that you are pre-planning what books to buy!
Oooh, happy lead-up to birthday week!!!! Sounds like you've already got a pretty good plan there.
ReplyDeleteI want Peter and Max too! I told myself I was allowed 3 new releases this year. One was Ash, another will have to be the new Discworld book which is about to come out. And the third was going to be Her Fearful Symmetry, but after reading Heather's review I started thinking that I really should calm down about that book before I read it. So now I kind of want to pick something else. Maybe Peter and Max will be it :P
