Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

Running from November 1, 2009 to December 1, 2010, this is a challenge that is way outside my comfort zone. I don't think I have ever really read Christian fiction before. Hosted by Amy and Deborah, I am looking forward to trying something new! To find out more about the Christy Awards Challenge you can check out the website.

I think I am going to sign up for the 2nd Tier:
2nd Tier - Any ONE Years Favorite Category - 3-4 Books or mix 3-4 winners from any category
I am going to go with 3-4 winners from any category. This is mainly because I will read most of these from the library and it is hard to say what is available!

I will start with Candle in the Darkness by Lynn Austin. I have heard of the author before and people seem to really like her! The rest of my list will probably be based on recommendations...

  1. This is out of my comfort zone too - maybe I should join the challenge as well. Good luck!

  2. Stepping out of one's comfort zone can be really rewarding sometimes, can't it? This would definitely be out of my comfort zone, too, but I probably won't actually join the challenge. (Really trying to cut down on the challenges so maybe I can actually finish one once in a while.)

  3. Wow, good luck with this one. It would be *really* out of my comfort zone too, I have to admit, but I hope you find it worthwhile.

  4. That's so great of you to step outside of your comfort zone! It's out of my comfort zone also but I just signed up for three new reading challenges so I don't think I'll be able to fit this one in. Good luck and happy reading.

I'm woefully ill read in this genre; so much of the Christian fiction I've read has seemed terribly trite. However, I do like Frank Peretti very much (The Visitation, I think, is one of his works), and I remember a book by Peter Marshall, titled Christy, which I read in High School and loved. I'm looking forward to your thoughts as you work you way through this challenge.

  6. Yeah, this is WAY out of my comfort zone as well. I've read a few of the Left Behind books (and really enjoyed them.) I should re-read them so I can actually finish the series!!

Good luck with this. Looking forward to your reviews!

  7. This is too far out my comfort zone, but good for you for stretching.

  8. Christian fiction isn't my thing at all but I have read a few books that could be classified as such over the years.

  9. This is something I'm very familiar with and I enjoy Christian fiction. In fact, I've just finished one and that's ISOLATION by Travis Thrasher. It's quite good. :)

  10. bermudaonion: You should. I like trying something different from time to time!

Debi: Well, I only have to read 3 books, so that shouldn't be too bad. I never know, I might really enjoy it!

Cath: I just want to say I read something, I think...

Vasilly: lol You and your reading challenges! Good luck with them all!

bellezza: Yeah, what I have read in this genre over the years I haven't really enjoyed, but it is worth trying again!

Stephanie: I read two of the Left Behind books a couple years ago. I didn't love them, but they were good.

Beth: It's probably too far for me, too, but we will see how it goes!

Jenn: I have read a few, too, without really knowing. It happens, I guess.

Alice: Yes, I have seen you posting about Christian books on your blog. After I finish the challenge I might have to check some of them out.
