September in Review

What I Learned

I have read a lot of great books this month, but my numbers were not exactly what I wanted them to be. I am getting a bit swamped because my TBR pile is getting unmanageable lately. I was doing really good at getting it down lately, but it is getting ahead of me now. I would love to get some serious reading done in the next 3 months so that my shelf can look pretty again.

New To Me Authors

Salman Rushdie (Luka and the Fire of Life)
Kathleen Winter (Annabel)
Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus)
Hillary Jordan (When She Woke)
S.G. Browne (Breathers)
Matthew Gregory Lewis (The Monk)
Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark & Grimm)
Mark Lawrence (Prince of Thorns)
Frances Hardinge (Fly By Night)
Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower)

Thoughts for October

I really really need to just decrease the TBR pile a bit. I really want to read so many books, though, so it is a bit overwhelming. We will just see what happens!

Congratulations for finishing all these books in addition to The Way of Kings. It is taking me forever to finish it.

I'd say that was a pretty kick-ass reading month!

  3. You read some awesome books this month! I really enjoyed When She Woke, and Salman Rushdie is on my must-read-soon list. It's frustrating how every time you read a book from your TBR, two more seem to sprout in its place, isn't it? Good luck with your pile!

  5. It's such a problem... though I'm not sure that's the right word... when there are so many books we want to read. I think that's mainly why I have such a hard time choosing a next book to read when I've just finished one. Far too many choices and all so tempting. And I only have myself to blame...

  6. I had Luka and the Fire of Life out from the library a while ago, but abandoned it after two chapters :\ The timing wasn't right and I didn't want to spoil it for myself by forcing myself to read it. Anyway, you had a great reading month!

  7. I have been trying to get to Radiant Shadows for so long..... that title just jumped out at me when I was reading your September in Review. MY TBR pile has grown tremendously and that's only the actual books that I have. (I have a list of books to get once my pile has shrunk, lol.) Good Luck!

  8. I've been wanting to read some Salman Rushdie for a while and Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Night Circus are on my list as well. I'm impressed with the number of books you read in September. That's really awesome!

  9. **celawerdblog: I read most of The Way of Kings in August. It just worked out I read the last bit in September. I hope are enjoying it!

    **softdrink: Thanks!

**Erin: I am not sure I picked the best book to read by Salman Rushdie. It was good, but nothing amazing. I just want my bookshelf to not look so cluttered. It looked really good in the beginning...

**bookdout: I know. I started off the year really well, but lately the pile has gotten a bit out of control!

**Cath: I know. I am almost too overwhelmed and it is slowing down my reading. There is so much that I want to read and not enough hours in the day, so I just seem to stall.

**Ana: I didn't really love Fire of Life, to be honest. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't amazing either.

**Sarah: I am not sure if I chose the best book to start with by Salman Rushdie, to be honest. Perks of being a Wallflower and The Night Circus were both really good, though.

  10. It's hard keeping up with one's TBR collection. No matter how hard I try, I barely ever seem to make a dent in it.

  11. I think you had an excellent month. My tbr never decreases. Too many great books keep being published!

  12. That was a great reading month! I feel your pain on getting out from under your TBR pile though. For the first time in months, I have no back-up reviews and nothing pending. I am literally out of books that I've finished to review. I better get reading!

  13. It doesn't seem to matter really, how many books you actually end up reading, when you're feeling that there just aren't enough reading hours in a day for you to read all the books you're eyeing. My TBR piles were very tidy early this summer, but they got a little messy, and then they got completely-out-of-control. It seemed to happen overnight (but of course it didn't)! I hope you start to feel a little more caught up soon, so the pleasure outweighs the stress again. :)

  14. **Literary Feline: I know. I FEEL like I am reading a lot of my own books lately, but then I look at my shelves and feel overwhelmed!

**Linda: Yes, that is both a good thing and a bad thing. If there was never another published book, though, I don't think I would ever run out of reading material.

**Michelle: I remain behind in my reviewing, but I have only finished one book since the month started. It's a sad thing!

**Buried in Print: Yes, I feel like one minute I looked at my shelves and they were nice and tidy and then the next minute they were crazy. I know it took months, but it doesn't necessarily feel that way!

  15. What a great month you've had!

  17. I'm having the same problem with my tbr pile too! I finished giving away the last stack of books but my pile is still towering. Maybe we can do something to cheer each other on?
