This, That, and the Other Thing...

I have been a bit too busy lately to post, but I wanted to at least say something, so this will be a random post...

  • Don't forget to check out the posts for the Virtual Advent Tour 2011. The posts have been a lot of fun so far and I am looking forward to more!
  • Sign-ups are open for the Historical Fiction Challenge 2012 are open on Historical Tapestry. I will be signing up when I get time to get organized. I finished the challenge for this year and I am looking forward to seeing what I read next year.
  • For those that were wondering, we have named the kitten Casey. She is still very friendly. Especially since I just fed her...
  • One of the things I have been doing today is exploring Satellite Radio. There is a Broadway station which I am currently listening to while typing this up. I have wanted Satellite Radio for a while, so I am excited. My car is not new enough to get it easily for that, but one day I will!
  • I went to my hometown yesterday to visit with some of my family before the holidays. It is probably the last chance I will get to go down and you can never say for sure with the weather in Canada. All it is doing is raining, though! I am very sick of rain.
  • I am still not reading. I am thinking I will just give-up and hope things get better in January. I think there are just too many distractions at the moment.
  • I really need to do the dishes. It is what I should be doing right now, but I simply hate doing the dishes. I also should change the litter in the litter box. Casey would probably appreciate that.
  • I think the rain is getting to me. It is just so depressing! As much as I hate shovelling I would prefer a bit of the white stuff just to break the monotony...
  • It is almost Christmas! I am pretty much ready, but I have a few last minute things to accomplish. I just haven't been in much of a holiday spirit lately. I think the weather is part of the reason.
  • I started watching the BBC Sherlock Holmes early today. I really enjoyed the first episode and am looking forward to more. I didn't post on Thursday, so I didn't get to to talk about what I have been watching lately. I will try to remember 2 weeks worth for this coming Thursday.
  • My order from BookCloseOuts should be here soon. It is part of my Christmas present, but I am still excited for it to arrive even if I can't have it right away. Only one of the books was out-of-stock when the order processed, so that still means 20 books.
  • I had hoped to read 20 of my own books before the month was out to make room for the new books. I have finished one so far...
What are your random thoughts for this (rainy, here at least) Saturday afternoon?

***Edited to add: This just played on the radio... Wow, just wow...

That being said, the video actually made me laugh...

Then, there is this song... Another one I have never heard before, but I think the lyrics are great:

  1. Starting fresh in January for your reading enjoyment sounds like a plan. I feel like I've been in a very serious reading funk for two or so years!! I've been spending time looking at reading challenges for 2012 to get some inspiration...I may even join one or two. Cuddle up with your kitten, a mug of hot chocolate and watch a movie - make it a comedy. (Rain, rain, go away...)

  2. I'm with you in hoping January gives a new push of reading energy! Ugh. So strange to have this feeling!

I agree snow would be good too. But not on a day when I have to get somewhere! We haven't had any snow at all yet, which is really unusual by this time of year.

I want to watch Sherlock Holmes! Maybe I'll start that and we can discuss stuff. It's like a buddy read, only a buddy watch instead! :)

    Have a lovely day!

I'd do the dishes for you if you'd vacuum my house. I loathe vacuuming!

  4. I haven't been reading much either but I've kinda chalked it up to the holidays and everything that goes with it. January will hopefully bring a fresh start :)

  5. I'm definitely not ready for Christmas! I haven't bought anything yet! :-( *sigh* I don't mind washing dishes though I hate doing them at night. I would rather go to bed. Have a great Sunday.

  6. Awesome post! I have not even started shopping, I am soooo bad. On the upside, I do not a lot to purchase, my college son wants tires for his car and our Navy son will not be home until the second week of January.

Enjoy your Sunday.... you have me thinking challenges now.

  7. I missed your news about the kitten and had to go look for pictures -- adorable! If you're not reading much, just relax and do something else. It'll come back eventually. I hate doing dishes too... and I have a big pile to get to today.

  9. Ugh - the constant rain would drive me crazy, too - it always makes me feel a bit depressed. I loved the first season of Sherlock - I can't wait for the second one to be available on DVD! I think I have a while to wait, though, as it's just starting to air in January. Hope you have a great week, Kelly!

  10. Casey is a great name for your new kitten. :-)

I do have to admit that this year has been a bit of a relief in terms of not putting pressure on myself to read. I haven't yet counted up my totals but I'm sure it's low. More than the average person though, I bet! LOL I think Americans average one book a year? I can't remember the statistic.

I love the rain, but I see so little of it where I live. It is raining today--the only downside is that I'm stuck at work and not at home able to cozy up on the couch with my hot chocolate and a book.

I hope you have a great week, Kelly!

  11. Holy Toledo Kelly - you read all those books on your sidebar...this year? Wow! I no longer feel your lack of reading pain. Just kidding, of course I do even though you read more books than me for year by June. :) :). A slump is a slump though and always feels a bit depressing regardless of the number. Enjoy December and Christmas and then start fresh in January.

Once you are able, please do list out the books you received for Christmas. Curious, I am.

I hate doing dishes too. Vacuuming I enjoy especially when listening to an audiobook or music via my mp3 player.

I think it's that time of year when trying to fit everything in almost seems impossible!
I hope you pick up a book to enjoy soon
