Sunday Book Coveting - Living in a Fantasy World

For the Themed Reading Challenge, my theme is supposed to be fantasy novels published before 2008. This is an attempt to clean off my TBR pile. Despite the fact that I have read several books that count; none of them came from my own stack. So, I am just going to list some of the books I had in mind for this challenge that I still haven't even looked at!

The Darkness that Comes Before by Scott Bakker
Queen of Darkness by Anne Bishop
The Dragon Queen by Alice Borchardt (would also count for the Arthurian Challenge)
Gravelight by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Dragon Blood by Patricia Briggs
Fool Moon by Jim Butcher
Threshold by Sara Douglass
Battleaxe by Sara Douglass
The Jaguar Knight by Dave Duncan
American God by Neil Gaiman
Legend by David Gemmell
Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind

And then the shelf gets blocked and I can't see it from the computer... See! Lots of good books that I really want to read!

What are some books that you are coveting on your shelves that you have owned forever and really should read one of these days?

I really don't think these posts have to be about book buying, do you? I have plenty to choose from without spending anything!

Also, because I am doing Music Munday tomorrow, I don't want to take away from it, so I just wanted to mention that I won a copy of Made in the U.S.A. by Billie Letts from the blog kiss a cloud. It arrived in the mail yesterday. I have read all of Letts other books, so I am looking forward to another great read! I also won a copy of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home from dreadlock girl reads. I am actually very curious about the book because I hate cleaning, but apparently it is good even if that is the case!

  1. A competition I can't join! *sob* I missed the deadline, somehow I missed this one. I'll just have to do my own! lol I like that you picked all fantasy books, Kailana. I've read only one, American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. You must read this one! Oh my yes. Like anything he writes, it's in a league of it's own. And very very good.

  2. Read Queen of Darkness! And American Gods!

Books I've owned forever and should really get to: The Red Tent! But I put it on the June pile, so hopefully I'll get to it soon.

PS: I see you've read the Tempest Manga. How was that?

  4. Oooh, look at all the Sara Douglass you have there! How fun - I can't wait to hear what you think of them!

As far as what I have had on my shelf forever.... ummmm... let's just say that there's a lot and leave it at that. ;)

  5. Susan: That's too bad that you missed the deadline! I like the feature so much, though, that I kept it for myself!

Ana: I know. I really have to read American Gods. And, very funny that you are recommending Queen of Darkness. Didn't Rhinoa just get you to read that last year? I read the first two books years ago and you are ahead of me... lol

As to The Tempest Manga... I don't know. Frankly, I didn't like any of the mangas... They were too rushed. I'd rather read the original plays, and I have never read The Tempest before.

Clare: I know. I have read Sara Douglass before, but her newer stuff. Must remedy that!

Court: I really will make Sara Douglass a priority!

  6. Coveting from my own stacks: Bastard Out of Carolina (Dorothy Allison), The Good Earth (Pearl Buck), a book about Blackwater, and a couple of environmental books. Oh, and I just looked at your sidebar and saw Nation, so I'll add that to my list as well. :D

  7. I loved American Gods & Queen of Darkness. I've not read anything else on your list. As for my TBR, there are so many things I've had for so long I can't begin to name them. *brb* Ok here are a few: Daughter of Fortune, Isabelle Allende; The Illuminator, Brenda Rickman Vantrease; Lost in a Good Book, Jasper Fforde; & The Once & Future King, T. H. White.

BTW- I gave you an award!

  8. I have a ton of books on my shelves that I'm coveting. I never thought to do a post on them! What a great idea. I won't be able to get to any of them this week since I have a ton of books from the library that's due back by Friday.

  9. Andi: With your new way of reading books it will take you a while to get to that part of the alphabet!

Bookwormom: I really must read both American Gods and Queen of Darkness. It's taken me forever! Daughter of Fortune is a really good book! I have The Illuminator on my TBR too... As well as Jasper Fforde and T.H. White.

Vasilly: I covet anything that I don't get a chance to get around to reading. Chances are if I own it, I want to read it!

Read the Anne Bishop and Neil Gaiman, I love both books. You could also consider fomr CDL for your quest and he is urban fantasy with lots of books published before 2008.
