Have to Love it!

I am very happy with the fact that I have read 18 books so far this month! I was going to write a review, but I like to have the book beside me when I write one, and unfortunately I don't have the book that needs to be reviewed with me! I had a really bad reading year last year, so I am crossing my fingers that I can actually get a real handle on my TBR pile this year. Plus, I love to read, so it is not like it is torture to do so, right? And, the torturous things I just ignore. Like, how large IS my TBR pile? I will probably never count... Or, how many series do I have partly started? I actually am sort of looking at that this year! I am not going to hide. I think I have a lot on the go, so hopefully I can finish a few. And, well, I will start more, but that's me! I join challenges and receive ARCs of books, but I never really let those things dictate what I read. I read for fun. I pick up the book that I want to read, and if it works for a challenge, great! If it doesn't, I just want to know that I enjoyed reading it. I think I got bogged down in what was 'necessary' last year. This year, I am just reading whatever.

I learned a valuable lesson tonight: Don't leave graphic novels in my car in the winter! I always have a little TBR pile in my car because I hate not having a book! I left the next Fables book in my car last night! I didn't mean to. I said I was going to go get it, but then the charming comedian started telling me a story... Which, I am sure was fascinating at the time, but I honestly can't remember what he said. I ended up listening to him talk for like an hour (I love the fact that he talks more than I do). So, I ended up just starting another book. Well, earlier this evening I decided I was going to read the next Fables book and the pages are distorted! I was really not impressed at myself (although, I blamed it on him... He was the one talking!). Anyway, so I went flying around the house looking for really large books to pile on the graphic novel to try and make it go back to normal. I thought I was pretty obvious about this, but the charming comedian came by the table and paused. I was reading and looked up to see what the problem was. He wanted to know why there was a tower of books on the coffee table. When I told him why, he just shook his head and continued on his way... So, yes, pray for my poor little book! (Just kidding, of course!)

  4. I am really impressed by your 18 books already. That is more than a book a day. Cool. I've just read one. LOL. Doesn't seem like much compared to 18 :o)

I am sorry for the state of the little Fables book. I hope you can make it look normal again, even if that involves a tower of other books helping it along its way to normalcy :o)

  6. 18 books!! You're doing great!

I had something similar happened to my copy of Dream Hunters last summer. I had lent it to my boyfriend and be brought it along to read when we went on a short seaside holiday...and one night over the nightstand in our hotel room with the sea breeze was enough to leave the pages all curly! I was completely traumatized, but fortunately piling heavy books over it did the trick! It's back to normal now, and hopefully your Fables book will be too.

  7. I hope the pile of books fix your copy of Fables.

18 books? Wow. I wish I can get that much read, but sadly it seems I won't be reading anything for pleasure until the semester is out in May. (One of my professors already told us we have homework on our spring break.)

    Happy reading!

  8. 18 books?! wow. I've read 4 and I'm still really proud of that :)

I'd hate it if any of the pages in my books were distorted as well :( Hope you'll be able to make them better..

  9. Marg: Yeah, you didn't read a lot of books in January last year either, did you? It seems to be your slow month. :) You do quite pick up speed, though!

Ana: Thanks! It probably won't stay like that, but I am happy for the moment.

Stephanie: The book is looking much better, thank you.

bogsider: Yeah, I am rather surprised by the fact that I have read more than one book a few days because there were a couple that I didn't finish any... It's been good so far, though!

Robin: I don't know about inspiring, but thanks!

Nymeth: Yep! The big books might not get read very much, but they do come to the rescue of my poor little book. Even if my boyfriend did think I was crazy...

Vasiillis: Been there, done that... I didn't read very much during my university days. I had too much other reading to do!

Michelle: I hate for anything to happen to my book, too. I am obsessive compulsive about the state of my books. They hardly ever look like I even read them.

  10. I read one so far:( but I gave up on one of 600 pages right before the last 100 pages so that doesn't count. I don't even want to add it to the "read" list cause I ended up hating the author:P
I'm with you about challenge philosophy, although sometimes, when I "force" myself to reading books listed for challenges, I end up really enjoying books I wouldn't have read otherwise. but I know how good it is to feel free to pick up whichever books you fancy at the moment.

  11. Actually my worst month last year was December. The year before it was January.

  12. Valentina: I think I have enough books on TBR pile that they open lots of new doorways. Someday in the future, I might do a few challenges where I have to buy books for them, but I prefer to read books I already own.

Marg: Oh. I was sort of right, then. Last year was because of It, wasn't it?

  13. oh yes, me too, but sometimes I list books that I own and that fit into a challenge but I don't really feel like reading, and with a little effort I finally read them and end up loving them! that's what I meant.

  19. Julia: Yes, but you have a lot of diverse interests. Reading is my main one and it comes before the others. :)

  20. I hope that poor Fables gets fixed soon :( I love that you have a huge pile of books on top of it to correct it :p I've done that many times before too, lol. And 18 books?! That's crazy!! You'll do really well this year!

  21. haha, yeah, well, desperate times call for desperate measures! I hope I read a lot this year. I really want to clear some books off... One empty shelf would be nice!

  22. The huge bookpile is also useful if you drop a school binder in a puddle -lol! Hope your Fables gets back in shape, and wow what a great start to the year - 18 books blows my mind :)

  23. Joanne: Yes, that would totally suck! I don't think I ever did that... Thank god for a tower of books. Best invention ever. lol

  24. Wow, you've been a reading maniac! :)
I've finished a couple of books and am already behind on reviewing all of them so I understand that.

I'm totally with you on reading for fun. I don't care how many ARCs, new books or library books, whatever I have waiting, I choose my books based on my reading mood.

  25. Iliana: Thanks! I am behind in my reviews, too. No surprise there!

I am glad I am not the only one that just reads for fun. ha ha
