At 5:30 this morning the cc knocked over a pile of books and, well, had a bit of a freak-out. I do have too many books, so I thinned things out a bit. I am returning books unread to the library because I doubt I will get to them any time soon. That got rid of a lot of books. The rest of the books really didn't need to be in a pile on the floor. I have perfectly good shelves they can be on, so that is the plan for the afternoon. Hopefully that will result in less toppling towers of books. I am sure if it wasn't so early in the morning it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but since it was I decided to just try and eradicate the problem.
The third part of my plan is to have a graphic novel day so that I can return them all to the library and get the pile down even further. I probably won't read all of them, but at least it will thin things out a little bit. I haven't been reading as much this year, so the pile is growing and not getting any smaller. I had to do something... Here are the graphic novels I have out from the library:
Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea by Guy DelisleThe Baby-sitter's Club: A Graphic Novel - Kristy's Great Idea by Raina TelgemeierRedwall: The Graphic Novel by Brian JacquesThe Photographer: Into War-Torn Afghanistan with Doctors Without Borders
Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Death and Dementia by Gris GrimlyDetroit Metal City: Volume 1 by Kiminori WakasugiAmulet: Book Two - The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi
Miki Falls - Volume 3 - Autumn by Mark Crilley
Good luck with reading your stack. I really need to do a mini-readathon myself. What did you think of The Baby-Sitters Club? I started buying the graphic series for my daughter last year.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading.
Ooh, I have seen a lot of good things on the photographer one! I hope you prioritize and get to that one :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sadly lacking in graphic novels around my house. I have a few unread--mostly chunksters like From Hell or Watchmen. Those of a normal size are few and far between, and I've read almost all of the ones I'm interested in from the library. Must start finding more!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're making great progress!! I thought about doing that too!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, look how many of those you've knocked off the list! Good for you, Kelly!
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky--Rich's books stacks are both as numerous and as teetering as mine. ;)
Btw, I so owe you an e-mail.
Do the ones crossed out mean you've read them? I have Pyongyang sitting among my library book stack at the moment, along with a couple other graphic novels (Siberia, Laika and R. Crumb's Genesis) and am planning to read it in February. I don't know why, but I feel like if I read too many graphic novels at once, I'm somehow cheating from the 'real' reading I should be doing. Silly, I know.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your stack!
ReplyDeleteI can't go crazy with graphic novels because they're quite pricey over here. :(
Aaw I soo soo want to read Pyongyang, but it's not available at my libraries :(
ReplyDeleteI assume by your crossed off ones that you were able to have your day and got a lot of reading done. I haven't read anything by Mark Crilley for a long time, but I really enjoyed his work when I was reading it.
ReplyDeleteAlso hope you got some of your shelving done. That plus reading sounds like a wonderful day!!!
I just can't get myself into graphic novels. It's probably a good thing as I have so many other books to read. I wish I would use the library more instead of buying everything. It just never seems to have the books I want available.
ReplyDeleteSo have you read The Photographer yet? Really curious to hear about that one! I'm in the mood for a good graphic novel so looking forward to your reviews!
ReplyDeleteso many on your list taht I want to read too!
