Books I Haven't Read

I have seen a couple posts lately about books that everyone else seems to have read, but the bloggers haven't got around to yet (or don't plan to).

1. The Help by Kathryn Stockett - I tried to read this earlier this year, but I couldn't get into it. The beginning was a bit too slow for me at the time. Everyone seems to love it, though, and it does seem like something I would enjoy!

2. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - I am not entirely sure if this is my type of book, but I do own it. I probably will read it eventually.

3. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - I have read the first couple books, but I was not a big fan and probably won't read the rest of the series.

4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - Somehow I missed this book in school. I don't know if I will ever read it.

5. Jane Austen Books - I have only read Pride & Prejudice. I own a nice set of all the books, but I don't know if I will ever read them.

6. Eat. Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - Everyone seems to have read this book, but I haven't bothered to read it yet.

7. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell - I had intended to read this a couple months ago, but it didn't happen. One day.

8. The Passage by Justin Cronin - This is around everywhere lately, but I haven't been tempted to read it yet.

9. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - I own this and have meant to read it like ten times, but still haven't got around to it yet!

10. The Tempest by William Shakespeare - There are a few Shakespeare plays I haven't read, but this one has been in a few of my other reads lately, so it is on my mind.

There are a lot more, but I can't think of them at the moment!

  1. I love the idea of these posts. It's so fun to see what others have and haven't read yet. Here are my thoughts on your list.

    1) I haven't read it either, not sure that I will.
    2) Eventually will read.
    3) Loved!
    4) Hated.
    5) Meh. Read a few, there were alright.
    6) Bleh. Not a fan.
    7) Love love love. First read it in like, grade 7 or 8, have read it almost yearly since.
    8) I am about halfway through.
    9) Read it in school, how did you avoid it there? It is a pretty good book.
    10) Haven't read it, might eventually.

  2. Okay I think it's eery that we both happened to post our list on the same day, Kelly! How strange. :D Let's see, here's how I feel about the books on your list:
    1. Not interested.
    2. Absolutely will not read this!
    3. You know how I feel about these, lol!
    4. Just tried to read this one the last few days and it was so boring. I dropped it after 40 pages.
    5. I liked one, didn't like 4, couldn't get through the 6th.
    6. Not interested.
    7. Not interested.
    8. Not interested.
    9. Read it in middle school, wasn't terribly impressed but I know I was too young to get it so I want to reread it one day.
    10. I hate Shakespeare.

  3. The only one of these that I've read is To Kill a Mockingbird (which I loved). Probably won't ever read the others...

  4. I've read every book on here except The Passage (including everything by Austen) and have seriously loved all of them except Eat, Pray, Love, which was awful.

  5. I've tried and failed with Jane Austen's books many times. I haven't read The Tempest but I plan to.

  6. Oh Kelly, I hope when you do get around to reading To Kill a Mockingbird that you'll love it as much as I do. That's one of those books that I can't ever see being knocked from my 10-favorite-of-all-time list.

And it's weird--three other books you listed, I've read very recently, as in just the last couple months (the third Harry Potter book, a reread of The Great Gatsby, and The Tempest). As for the rest, I can't ever see myself reading Gone With the Wind, Eat, Pray, Love, or any Austen (I tried to read one of hers and I just couldn't do it). But the others...maybe someday.

  7. I have no - zilch - nada desire to read The Help or Eat Pray Love. I've snubbed my nose almost immediately after they came out.

  8. I read the Harry Potter series and thoroughly enjoyed it, but admit the last half of the series was more enjoyable for me because the writing seemed to mature with the subject matter.

I read Gone with the Wind in junior high, before I ever saw the movie.

I've tried Jane Austen a few times but thoroughly enjoy the movie adaptations I've seen and don't mind not having read the books.

  9. I love reading these posts!

    1. The Help by Kathryn Stockett - Plan to listen to this one on audio soon.

    2. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - Another one I'm going to try on audio.

    3. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - Some of my all-time favorites.

    4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - Ugh - you're not missing anything, in my opinion.

    5. Jane Austen Books - Persuasion is the best, in my opinion.

    6. Eat. Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - Not sure if I'll ever pick this one up.

    7. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell - I hated the movie, so probably won't read it.

    8. The Passage by Justin Cronin - Loved it!

    9. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - You should pick this up like now. No, yesterday!

    10. The Tempest by William Shakespeare - Not my favorite of The Bard's works, but still good.

  10. It's so fun to see everyone's lists! I really need to do mine, too. Eat Pray Love will probably be on it; I read a huge part of it and was bored to death, then I had to return it to the library and never bothered finishing it!

  11. Amy: The more I look at the list, the more I wonder if I will ever read any of these books...

Amanda: That's great we posted on the same day. lol There were books on your list that I should have had on mine. When I am not trying to make a list I can think of tonnes of books I haven't read, but I was having a hard time coming up with this list!

Daphne: I REALLY need to read To Kill a Mockingbird!

Keishon: Wow, you are my book hero. lol

pussreboots: I don't really think Austen is for me, but maybe one day!

Debi: I really must read To Kill a Mockingbird!

Christina: I might read The Help, but I doubt I will read Eat Pray Love.

Glenda: I have seen Gone with the Wind, but never read the book. Not sure if I ever will, to be honest.

Carrie: I heard The Help was a good audio. I might do that instead of reading it.

Kay: Yeah, the more lists I read, the more books I think of for this list!

  12. I love these lists too :-)

You should really read To Kill a Mockingbird, it's a great book!

  13. I absolutely love reading these lists! I've read quite a few of those you mentioned. Of those, I loved To Kill a Mockingbird. I was very swept up in the future world of The Passage and I'm an Austen fan (although Persuasion and Emma took a while to get into). I liked Eat, Pray, Love but I didn't love it because I found the author annoying and couldn't relate to her. But, I particularly enjoyed the "Eat" section (which took place in Italy).

I like Shakespeare, but he's better observed than read, IMHO, because his plays make so much more sense in motion. Harry Potter . . . exactly the same as you. I read the first two and part of the third. I've never felt compelled to read on.

I do plan to read The Help, The Great Gatsby and Gone With the Wind. We'll see how those go. I'm iffy about Dragon Tattoo, though. Might be too violent for me.

  14. I just borrowed a copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I'm not sure if it's my type of read either, but it came recommended. Here's hoping we like it!

To Kill A Mockingbird is a wonderful story. Heavy at times, but a really good read.

  15. Let's see.

Loved The Help - thought it was an excellent read and well worth persevering.

Loved TGWTDT, and the books that followed it! I am not sure that you would like them all that much though.

Harry Potter - I have read the first five, but still haven't read the last two. Not sure whether I will or not.

The Great Gatsby - I read this in school, and remember really liking it at the time.

Jane Austen - never ever read her either!

Eat Pray Love - have no desire to read this book.

Gone with the Wind - have read this book a couple of times. Such a classic.

The Passage - I have this out from the library. Hope to get to it soon, and I have really high hopes for it.

To Kill a Mockingbird - Another school read.

The Tempest - haven't read it, have no intention of reading it.

  16. I swear I commented on this post. Blogger must have eaten it.

  17. Some of those books are HIGHLY over-rated. For example, skip Gatsby. Horrible book. On that note, though, you should totally read To Kill a Mockingbird - soooooo good.

On your list, I've read a few Jane Austen and the Harry Potter books and enjoyed them. I hope to read To Kill a Mockingbird soon, and I have The Help but all the hype is making me hesitant to read it.

  19. Funny, I just wrote a post about how I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the book I'll be starting it next. I loved The Help and really think you should give it another try, am a huge HP fan, haven't attempted Girl with a Dragon Tattoo yet and thought The Passage was over-rated (you'll see my review of that one soon)!
