My Book Loot - A Vlog

Okay, technically these are a Christmas present from the guy. Technically it is not Christmas, but I had the house to myself and decided that I should just do another vlog. I highly doubt I will get any more books for Christmas because I don't normally get any. I could have waited and posted this after Christmas, but if I think of it too much I probably wouldn't post it at all. And, the only way these were getting wrapped is if I felt inspired to wrap them myself... I didn't...

The lighting is terrible, but that's the normal weather for this time of the year and lamplight looked even worse. (I just hate that the light reflects off my glasses...)

  1. Good to see your lovely face Kelly! :) I'm glad you decided to post this.

I don't know many of the books you mention. I do know that I have an aversion to that Bad Marie book. The cover and title just really turn me off and I have no desire to read it. Also, I absolutely loved Brian Sanderson's pep talk for NaNoWriMo this year. I really want to read something by him because he approaches writing a very similar way to me, but I don't really read fantasy so I'm not sure if I should read him afer all. Kind of a weird connundrum (sp).

  3. I've only read 2 of those books..the wild wood and the wood wife... both at least 2 years ago so my memory isn't very sharp on them lol I know I enjoyed the wood wife, I honestly can't remember the wild wood lol sorry 'bout that!

Anyway...you are just so stinkin' adorable!!! I've no idea why, but you don't sound anything like I thought you'd sound. Oh Kelly, you totally need to do this more often!!! :D :D :D :D :D

(Btw, there's a package on the way to you--I just hope it arrives before Christmas. *fingers crossed*)

  6. Yay for making a vlog! I love knowing what you look like. I hope you're able to get to The Wood Wife. I've been meaning to read it for ages. Happy reading!

  7. Awww!!! I love your vlogs Kelly :D It was so good to see and hear you!!! OMG You got Moonheart!!!! I love that book so much though I've seen others who aren't nuts about it. Also, you're in for a real treat with The Wood Wife! Another amazing book! And that is so sad about The Way of Kings :( Next time you find a good copy, scoop that thing up! LOL

  8. Kelly, I love your vlog! It was so fun to see you and hear your voice! It was like sitting next to you, talking about books with you. thanks for doing it!

Now to the books - I have Wood Wife to read (and yes, I love the cover too), Moonheart is very good (I read it earlier this year, a reread, and I liked it as much as the first time), and for Kage Baker, please read Garden of Iden first. It is the first in her Company books, and so powerful and amazing. I've loved this books since reading it 10 years ago. If your library doesn't have it, let me know.

I also want my series to match, so at least in favour of the Patricia Briggs series, they are using the same artist for both the softcovers as well as the hardcover editions.
Happy reading all those books, happy Christmas, Kelly!

  9. **Amanda: Thanks!

hm, that's interesting about the Bad Marie book. I will be curious what I think of it. It's a shorter book, so once I start reading again I will probably read it simply because those books won't fit on my TBR shelf and are piled on the floor at the moment...

And, I would never be an editor. I read 'Brian Sanderson' and saw 'Brandon Sanderson'. I correct things in my head and don't even notice half the time.

**Pat: Yes, I remember when The Wood Wife made the blogging rounds. It has been something on the back of my mind for a while now.

lol Yes, and I guess I don't look my age, so people always think I am younger than I am. I am glad you aren't going to stop visiting, though!

**Staci: Well, this is my second. I never intended to ever do one again, but inspiration struck. (And I have a webcam that I paid for and it hardly ever gets used...) I am looking forward to both Faith and The Russian Winter!

**Debi: I had forgotten that the other one wouldn't play for you. I am glad, I suppose, that this one would. In a way it wouldn't be so terrible if people didn't see me... And, really, I never sound like I think I should sound to myself... :)

And, really? You shouldn't have sent me anything! Man, I was so disorganized I didn't even send out cards again this year!

**Vasilly: Yes, I am not sure how many more I will do, but one once in a while isn't SO bad... :)

**Chris: hm, maybe it was you that I heard about Moonheart from. I know that someone talked about it because I vaguely remembered what it was about. I could also have just looked it up before. I have heard good things about The Wood Wife.

    **Susan: Thanks, Susan!

I am glad to see two people say that they really enjoyed Moonheart. I have read some of the other earlier books by de Lint and I didn't enjoy them as much as his series. I just really like him and want to own everything. :)

Sorry that series books covers don't match...

fun vlog. great looking books, and you reminded me that Russian Winter is on my TBR list.

(I get a bit anxious pronouncing some of these author's names aloud.)

  12. Don't worry...you got War Through the Generations right in the vlog. ;)

I hope you "enjoy" Displaced Persons as much as I did. I bought Sala's Gift ages ago but still haven't read it. Happy reading!

  14. Yay! a KellyVlog (TM) :)

Looks like a great set of books. I've only read (well listened to, actually) Moonheart which I didn't love, but I did enjoy it!

  15. **Care: Some of them were total splurges and others I bought just because of conversations on Twitter while I was purchasing them...

**L: I am looking forward to Russian Winter... And, yes, me too! I have a way to say them and since I hardly ever hear them said aloud myself, I have no idea if I am saying them right.

**Anna: ah, good. For some reason when I went to type I wanted to say 'War through the Ages'. It got me worried I said it wrong.

**Melissa: I am very excited about it. Thanks!

**Darren: Thanks! I am looking forward to more from de Lint. I will be curious to see what I think of Moonheart.

  16. Awesome haul! I love the cover to DREAMHUNTER. Now I kind of wish I'd bought it, even though I already have a copy.

That's so frustrating about THE WAY OF KINGS. Thankfully, my copy just has a small tear in the cover, which I was expecting since they had it marked as from the scratch & dent bin. I'd be upset if it came all mangled up. :(

    1. I am looking forward to reading Dreamhunter.

Yes, a little scratch would be no big deal, but this is not a little scratch. And Chapters is sold out of the bargain copy they had. :(
