I am delighted with the poetry topic for November. This is poetry I can handle. This may seem surprising to you, but then you might forget that lyrics are poetry and I love Christmas music! So, obviously I am going to share some of my favourite Christmas songs... And, if I include the lyrics you can read them and then we have read poetry together this month. See, I told you I liked this months topic!
I don't really listen to Amy Grant normally, but I have always loved her Christmas CDs. First, since this is a poetry post, here are the lyrics to 'Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)' which has long been one of my favourite songs at this time of the year.
I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary with a babe inside
And I wonder what I've done
Holy Father you have come
And chosen me now
To carry your son
I am waiting in a silent prayer
I am frightened by the load I bear
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone
Be with me now
Be with me now
[Chorus:]
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy
Breath of heaven
Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong
Help me be
Help me
And, the second song I have decided for today should delight Suey! 'Believe' by Josh Groban. There are several singers I don't own anything else by, but love their Christmas CDs. I think a lot of this is because what he says makes so much sense...
Children sleeping, snow is softly falling
Dreams are calling like bells in the distance
We were dreamers not so long ago
But one by one we all had to grow up
When it seems the magic's slipped away
We find it all again on Christmas day
Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that's playing
There's no time to waste
There's so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe
Trains move quickly to their journey's end
Destinations are where we begin again
Ships go sailing far across the sea
Trusting starlight to get where they need to be
When it seems that we have lost our way
We find ourselves again on Christmas day
Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that's playing
There's no time to waste
There's so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe [x4]
What are some of your favourite holiday poems?
