Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

The New Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Reading new-to-me authors and liking them is not my problem.... Reading authors and series I have read before is my problem! And, well, I seemed to like a lot of books this year...

1. Mary Roach - I listened to Stiff FINALLY and loved it! Can't wait to see what else she has.

2. Elizabeth Peters - Finally! I listened to this one, too, and think it is going to be fun listening to the series.

3. Marisha Pessl - So! Awesome! I loved it!!

4. Ilona Andrews - Another finally! And another audiobook.

5. Cassandra Clare - I didn't think I was going to like this series to be honest, but I do... The movie was terrible, though. I didn't like it at all.

6. James S. A. Corey - I absolutely LOVE this series!!

7. Patricia A. McKillip -  Another finally! I can't wait to read more from her!!

8. Rainbow Rowell - Another one I didn't think I would love, but I did!

9. Kate Atkinson - And, well, another book I loved!

um.... There are too many to pick my 10th! I read Kill Shakespeare this year! I loved City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte. Then there was the 10 P.M. Question by Kate De Goldi. And The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. And Jennifer Worth's Call the Midwife. So, basically when you have a really slow reading year and are really picky about what you read for this reason... You don't really hate anything that you read!

BUT!

Bryan Peterson is awesome. I love his photography books... And, um, might own them all... I need to get back to 'learning' in 2014!

  1. So sad that the Immortal Instruments movie wasn't any good - Natalie and I have been waiting forever to see it.

  2. Looks to be a great list to writers that you tried out. In particular Leviathan Wakes seems intriguing. An old fashioned solar system based space opera is almost a fresh idea these days.

  3. I kind of liked the movie Mortal Instruments. Besides the rushed ending and the giant spoiler (for those of us who haven't read beyond the first book), and the way the movie writers presented certain aspects, I was entertained. LOL But then, I liked the book and didn't love it, so maybe it's expected.

Marisha Pessl is an author I would like to try at some point. I love Mary Roach and Kate Atkinson.

  4. A couple of those were new for me this year as well. I am officially a Rainbow Rowell fangirl now!

  5. It's so fun to discover a new author isn't it? I loved Eleanor & Park. I can't wait to read her book Fangirl.

  6. I've only read one of those authors, Mary Roach, and I had a love/hate relationship with the book. But it was a collection of her essays, and while they were often hilarious, I just got so damn sick of her "men do this because they're men and women do this because they're women" crap. I actually think I will love her other books.
