Week in Review - Week 19

Random Thoughts

My reading had sort of slowed down for a bit there, but I think it is starting to pick back up. This weekend has been a reading weekend. I anticipate today to include reading as well! I hope May continues to be a good month with lots of great reads. It is my most popular month for pre-orders, though, so I am looking forward to the books that are going to be released as the month progresses!

Graphic Novel Year

Peter Panzerfaust - Volume 2: Hooked
Peter Panzerfaust - Volume 3: Cry of the Wolf
Peter Panzerfaust - Volume 4: The Hunt

Weekly Reading

Peter Panzerfaust - Volume 2 ~ I still can't believe I didn't know this series existed until recently. Peter had a sword fight that resulted in cutting off a German's hand. And, now we have Hook. The story plays really well against the back drop of World War II! Recommended!

The Twyning ~ This book was kind of an impulse read off of Scribd. While I did enjoy it, it wasn't knocking my socks off and I think that is why my reading slowed down a bit. I think it was timing... It is a book about rats with intelligence. We had something getting into our garbage... It hit a little too close to home! I did like it, though, and would read Blacker again. I think at a different point in time this would have been much better for me! Recommended!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone ~ My audio listening continues! I am so glad that I finally read this book. I actually own it in paperback, too, and both options sat on my shelves unread for years. The downside is I keep starting new series... I would like to listen to the rest of this series on audio, but I am still working my way through my audio TBR so have to wait. Definitely a series to check out, though. I can't wait to find out what happens next! Strongly recommended!

The Raven Boys ~ Another series that I have heard lots of good things about and never got around to reading... I think the reason I have resisted Stiefvater before is I tried to read her Shiver back when I was getting kind of sick of werewolves, vampires, etc. So, she sort of fell off my radar even though I hear lots of good thing about her. And, the good things were right! I am enjoying this so far and own the next two on audio, so happy reading to me! Strongly recommended!

Bone Gap ~ This book was one I had planned to get to before the year was over and I am so glad I got a chance to read it now! I started it Friday evening and was finished it by Saturday evening. It sucked me right in and I had a great time with it! I have to admit I had no idea what this book was even about. I try not to read too much about books because spoilers... I knew it was magic realism, though, and that is something that puts books on my radar. And, it was definitely worth the read!! Strongly recommended!

Peter Panzerfaust - Volume 3 ~ One thing I was curious about was how they were going to introduce Tiger Lily, but then they did and at first I was nervous and then it all sort of clicked into place. I enjoyed her character and we get to see a lot from her as the series progresses! Recommended!

Peter Panzerfaust -Volume 4 ~ And then it was done... I don't get it... I assume the series must have got cancelled? This volume has been out for a while and there seemed to be a lot of loose ends that never really got addressed. This book was basically about Tiger Lily and some characters we hadn't seen in ages. I know they wanted to leave the magic of Peter kind of open-ended, but even he was hardly in this one. So, I was kind of disappointed with the ending...

  2. Yay to Bone Gap and Dream Thieves!! I didn't know anything about Bone Gap before I started it either. It was frustrating at first, but I'm glad I finished it.

It's good to see your reading picking up again!

  4. Glad to see that "highly recommend" on Bone Gap as I just bought it today. While I've seen it around, I have absolutely no idea what it's about. I totally shouldn't admit that it was the fact that I love the cover that pushed me over the edge and got me buy it, should I?

  6. HUZZAH to your success with The Raven Boys! I just think Stiefvater has grown so much as a writer since those Shiver books -- although, I will say that the companion novel she wrote to the Shiver trilogy, Sinner, is excellent. Lots of really wonderful emotional descriptions in that one.

Ooh what is this Rebel of the Sands? The cover and title somehow make me think of the Golem and the Jinni

Also about the ending of Peter Panzerfaust, how odd! I was thinking of ILL-ing as it does sound interesting!

  10. I have heard mixed reviews of Rebel of the Sands and am curious to know what you think of it, Kelly. The cover is attractive. My reading seemed to slow down there for a short while. I hope it picks up again soon.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone and The Raven Boys are books on my TBR list ot read. I am glad you enjoyed both!

Such beautiful photos! I wish my cats were as photogenic. Or maybe it's my fault for never catching them when they would be worth photographing. LOL

    Have a great week!
