June in Review

What I Learned

I have a sort of half-ass done daily journal. I don't have a record of every year, but the years I do have recorded... 'Not really reading' is a common thread to this time of year. I am not even sure why to be honest. I have been blaming this year on my ankle, but that is not something that has existed in previous years. It just seems like when a slump hits, it is around this time of year. I know that last year I was well into a reading slump before my ankle even got broken. I have learned that reading slumps can be sort of held off with graphic novels and audiobooks. So, I am finishing stuff... Just longer works are taking forever. I honestly write in my bullet journal: Read Something. I aim for 50 pages a day and that seems to be doable in this current mood. So, I will finish longer works... It just takes longer!

I do know that Bullet Journals are a fantastic invention. I still would like a more conventional planner, but anything I like I can't see myself buying... Why do planners cost so much? I just like that my bullet journal keeps me accountable. Do I finish everything each day? Nope. But, I do eventually and that is better than never. I find that my common issue is my cleaning projects. I hate cleaning my bathroom. I find I will do the sink one day... The bathtub another... The guy always does the toilet. So, I will move the bathroom forward way more than any other cleaning project. It is not that my bathroom is disgustingly gross. I just hate cleaning it as much as my schedule tells me to! But, the schedule works overall. I surface clean even when it is not in my calendar. I am sure my house is cleaner now than ever before. So, when I don't cross a cleaning project off, it definitely doesn't mean I am not doing anything.

  1. Your list doesn't look very reading-slumpish to me! I love your thoughts on finishing things. Cleaning seems to be high in my list these days. I am so bad at it but I also like that sparkly clean look.

  2. Despite being in a reading slump, you seem to have finished quite a number of books. I think we all have a time of year when our reading falters a little, and it can be hard, especially when we have goals we want to meet or we actually want to read something but nothing is really speaking out to you. It's tough. Reading slumps seem to be quite an individual thing, especially coming out of them, I find returning to a trusted favourite helps, or picking a book that is outside my reading comfort zone, but I know those don't always work for others. Good luck!

Five audiobooks in the one month - great going for audiobook month! I have no idea how others get through so many audiobooks a month... I think when my toddler is in school I'll probably be able to manage a bit more on the audiobook front. I prefer to read physical books, so by time he is in bed that's what I want to pick up, not my headphones.

Bullet journals are great for holding yourself accountable, and for creating a system tailored to your wants and needs. It sounds like you are pushing on through with your journal, despite not feeling your tasks at the moment - that's great!

I hate cleaning the bathroom too - my least favourite chore!

I hope you have a wonderful July!

  3. I'm with Belle. Your list doesn't look very slumpish to me. I only got through one book this month. ONE! And, it was a graphic novel to boot. So, you're WAY ahead of me.

  4. Your list looks pretty good for a slump! I always have a hard time this time of year too. I just don't find myself wanting to read as much. I'm intrigued by the idea of bullet journaling. I make a to do list every day which I guess is kind of a bullet journal and it does help me get stuff done. Have a great July!

  6. I just started bullet journaling this week, and it's so much fun! I like that you can use it however it works for you. Hope you find some reading motivation soon. :)

  7. I would love to own a conventional planner too! But I like the free form nature of the BuJo. I would hate wasting space or running out of space on an actual planner. Oh well, someday maybe.

  8. wow, that's a great month. I hate cleaning as well, but I discovered it can be fun when I listen to audiobooks at the same time. Some weeks, I get really eager to clean, to have opportunity time to listen to a book - I can't listen and just sit, I have to do something manual, like cleaning, cooking, weeding, or painting

  9. Oh Lord, yeah, I have GOT to start my cleaning project. It has to happen and now has to be the time. I have my spreadsheet all set up, so I just need to stop being lazy and do the goals.
