Week in Review - Week 28

Random Thoughts

Mackie has had some sort of allergic reaction. That sort of derailed the weekend because I don't buy Benadryl typically and now I am typing this while waiting for a store to open that I can buy more at. In the meantime Mackie is itchy and half his face is swollen. Hopefully the Benadryl given to him regularly will get things under control. I am trying to make it to Monday so we don't pay emergency vet bills to be told the dog has an allergy and give him Benadryl. Now, give me lots of money. He is eating and drinking and asking to go out, so really normally other than the itchy side of his face.

It doesn't really matter what is happening with the dog in reading land, but since I am still in a reading slump we can talk about the dog instead, right?

Weekly Reading

A-Force - Volume 0 ~ I was excited about the idea for this comic, but again... Warzones and Secret Wars just are not knocking my socks off. But, this series does set up an interesting cast of characters and looks like it is continuing after the Secret Wars story-line has ended. I will be curious to see what direction it is going to take and am happy that there is a comic about a group of strong women in the Marvel Universe now.

Howard the Duck - Volume 0 ~ I guess since this series started before Secret Wars, they just made it Volume 0 because now the real stuff will be happening. I find Howard fun. He obviously reminds me of Donald Duck even if he is not necessarily anything like him personality wise. He is more a cross between Donald and Scrooge McDuck. But, it was a fun start to the series and I am looking forward to Volume 1.

Star Wars: Lando ~ My read of the Star Wars comics continues. This one centred around Lando, a character I always enjoyed in the movies. This comic still seems like the same person and captures his personality really well. I enjoyed it!

Star Wars: Shattered Empire ~ This comic takes place right after Star Wars Episode VI. It was good, but was apparently released more to benefit the new franchise than to give the old franchise what they wanted. I think it is because the new movies are introducing new characters and we are supposed to move beyond the Luke, Leia, Hans storylines and start liking the new characters. And, I probably will, but the originals will always hold the special place for me...

Blackout ~ If not for audio, I would not be finishing any longer works lately! But, at least I have audio working for me. First up, I listened to all three of the books in this trilogy in a row. Go me! It helped that they were really good! Mira Grant has someone that I have neglected for too long and really need to check out more from in the future! Georgia, Shawn, and all the other Newsflesh characters were engaging and the back-drop to the trilogy overall was well done. I am so happy I read it and strongly recommend the whole trilogy!

  1. Poor Mackie! Hopefully the Benadryl will help him or at least make him sleepy enough that itchiness won't bother him too much until you can get him to the vet. I'm with you on the no emergency vet bills. If he's eating fine and not too lethargic I'd definitely wait till Monday. I'm still in shock you don't have Benadryl in the house though. I buy that stuff in bulk! How are you liking Me Before You? I just finished it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Have a great week!

  2. Oh no, poor doggy! Is he any better?

Reading slumps suck, hopefully Me Before You has pulled you out of it a little. I find books of a romantic genre usually clear my mind ready for the next book.

  4. Poor Mackie! I hope the Benadryl works and doesn't require a vet visit. Love the pictures!

  5. Poor Mackie! My brother's dog had horrible allergies. He was on Benedryl during the year and on a prescription medication during his worst seasons. That dog was even allergic to humans - no kidding. I hope Mackie gets better soon!

  7. I hope Mackie is doing better.

Also, awesome to hear how much you're loving Newsflesh. I really need to get my hands on some of the material beyond the core trilogy.

Do you find the season usually affects your reading rate? I tend to read more in the summer, but I know it's the opposite efor many.

  8. Hope Mackie is doing better. I'm currently fostering a dog that looks just like him, although maybe skinnier. She's young and will probably fill out some. Unfortunately she got slapped by the cat and now needs drops in her eye 3-4 times a day. Hopefully it'll improve soon.

I read Mira Grant's Newsflesh books a while and really enjoyed them. I'm also a big fan of the Toby Daye books she writes as Seanan McGuire.
