Week in Review - Week 37

Random Thoughts

I am not sure what it is about the time as we draw closer to Autumn, but I am all ready doing things that I neglected all summer. And, I am reading more! I hope it continues as the weather continues to get more fall-ish and chilly. The summer here is so short. There are a lot of habits of mine that I have abandoned after time, but I am doing well with my overall goals for 2016 and hope that it continues. It might not turn out to be the best year overall, but it is leading to great hobbies, adventures, and great books!

Weekly Reads

City of the Lost ~ It had been a while since I read Armstrong other than a short story collection earlier this year. I loved her Women of the Otherworld series and it was about time I did some damage with her other series. This is the first book in a new series that centres around Casey Duncan and is a thriller instead of the typical paranormal books that Armstrong normally writes. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the sequel out next year! Strongly recommended!

One - Volume 1 ~ I was at the second hand store last week and they had a bunch of manga. I had credit, so I pretty much just grabbed what looked good. This series there were several volumes of, so that is what lead me in its direction. It is the story of a group of high school students who are musicians and actors. It was an interesting start to the series and I am glad that I have more volumes to see what my overall thoughts are on the series. Recommended!

Alice in the Country of Hearts - Volume 1 ~ This was also a random grab because manga retelling of Alice in Wonderland is always going to catch my eye. And, I really enjoyed this, but I am not sure if I will be able to read on because this is the only volume the store had. It was a good introduction to the different representations of the characters and definitely piqued my interest in how things play out. We will see if I get a chance to read on. Strongly recommended!

Perfect State ~ When my Scribd membership reactivated I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it. I decided to give it a couple months and see how much use I get out of it because I tend to read more this time of the year. So, I decided to start with some Brandon Sanderson because this novella was an Unlimited read and was on my wish list. It has been too long since I read Sanderson and I enjoyed this fantasy meets science-fiction mash-up. It was an original idea that I wish was longer because I enjoyed the characters and stories. Recommended!

Fortunately, the Milk ~ I revisited Armstrong and Sanderson, so why not Gaiman, too. This was an Unlimited read on Scribd that I had never read by him so seemed like the time. It was cute! The story of the magical adventures of a father after he has taken too long to pop out for some milk. You can picture Gaiman telling this to his kids! Recommended!

Yotsuba&! - Volume 1 ~ This was another manga grab from the second hand store and it was so cute! Yotsuba is a very entertaining, green haired little girl that you cannot help by enjoy her various adventures. I wish this series was out in collected volumes so I could read on without breaking the bank. This is why manga doesn't pop up on my blog very often... If you are lucky enough to be able to check this series out, you should! Strongly recommended!

  4. I always get bit by the autumn cleaning bug, and I'm hoping I can find time soon for that. It was so dark this morning when I drove to work . . . Definitely starting to feel more like autumn.

I am glad you are doing well with your goals, Kelly. I have been wanting to read The Rook. How are you finding it so far?

I hope you have a great week, Kelly!
