Books, Life, & Everything Else (5)

1. | Mount Mackie is back again this year. The picture above is from last year, but we have got a lot of snow over the last couple weeks to make a new one for this year. I was trying to find how tall it was in 2015 because the dog could reach the garage roof, but my 2015 pictures are apparently not organised. Something I really should do one of these days...

2. | After January was so good with audio books, I sort of fizzled on them this month. I think it is partly because I read 4 books in one series. While I enjoyed the series, that is really not the norm for me at all. I am just meant to only read standalone books. I am currently listening to Lincoln in the Bardo and it is going really well. There are 166 narrators. It is quite the experience!

3. | My reading in general started off better at the beginning of the month and then also fizzled. I am not sure what is wrong that is preventing me from reading. I am too distracted, I guess. I started flipping through my e-reader and reading shorter works this week and I think that is going better. I guess I am just not in the mood for something that I have to work at.

4. | One of the charming animals got sick on our bed on Wednesday at some point. It blended in, so it was likely there for a while before it was noticed. So, it unfortunately soaked through a few layers. That meant that on the negative side, I had to do a lot of laundry yesterday. On the positive side, everything was nice and clean when we went to bed last night. I even washed our duvet. It is 6 years old and I was like if it ruins, it has had a good run.

5. | I am tired of politics. There is always some new drama from the US. Our prime minister is doing pretty good, but people always find something to criticise him for. And, then closer to home the teachers have been on some weird strike situation all year. It is coming to a dramatic head at the moment. I don't have kids, so I only am sort of paying attention. You cannot avoid it, though.

6. | What did everyone do for Valentine's Day? We were dealing with the aftermath of a storm, but still went out for supper. Apparently because of the whole aftermath of the storm thing, not many other people decided to go anywhere. So, it was a quiet meal. We had originally planned to go out on the 13th to avoid the crowds, but everything was closed for the snow. It all worked out.

7. | I continue to make puzzles. There is this site online where people sell stuff second hand. I get like 5 puzzles or something for 10 dollars at the thrift stores. There are people on the site asking for 10 dollars for one puzzle. I just think that is expensive. So, I will stick with the 2 dollar puzzles at the thrift stores. lol

  1. I can't focus on longer works either anymore. It seems like all I can do is read short books. But hey, at least, I'm still reading. That's the way I look at it.

  2. Puzzles are strangely soothing, I have to say. I just finished one of an enormous girl looming over a bridge and controlling it with puppet strings, and it's so pleasing to look at that I haven't been able to bring myself to scrap it and start another. :p

  3. It sounds like you're having a quiet and calm winter. Who cares if you're not reading tons. Puzzles are great too. I'm glad you had a quiet Valentine's Day. It was crazy here. Every restaurant was packed!

  4. I'm sick of politics too, but I get sucked in because Trump is such an idiot and is going to destroy the US. I really like your PM, though. I wish he was the pres. for the US, lol. But, I guess there are always going to be people on both sides.

  5. I’m listening to The Bear and the Nightingale at the moment, but I’m finding that it’s one that I can’t just listen to the background, and at least at the moment is needs a bit more attention that I can give it, when I can listen to stuff.

Might start another and come come back to it.

  6. I have never felt this way about politics previously, but I must say I envy you your prime minister. I've never seen this much animosity before and can't help wondering how four years will play out here.

  7. Your post makes me curious, how is your luck with the puzzles? Any time I've gotten some second hand, there have been missing pieces. This has made me hesitant, luckily I can borrow & exchange with friends and family!
We spent Valentine's Day at the movie, watching the new John Wick. Not the most romantic lol but we had a good time.

  8. I'm jealous of your snow! We've hardly had any here in Michigan this year. I feel like I've gotten cheated out of my winter! :)

  9. I miss snow. I didn't think I would, but considering we have not had a snowstorm since December, I am jealous.

We don't do Valentine's Day, which takes off all the pressure. I don't even think I cooked anything that night because Holly was at the dance studio so late and Connor had something that night as well.

  10. I love pictures of snow, but am not a fan of actually being in it. :-) I am determined to listen to twice as many audio books as I did last year. Or maybe I should aim for three more than I did last year (I listened to 6, my record). . . I took a week off listening to any last week and regretted it. I couldn't settle on a music station and talk radio was depressing me. I don't know what I was thinking.

I'm sorry to hear one of your animals is sick. My senior cat hasn't been feeling well for a couple months now. I worry about him all the time. :-(

I am tired of all the political talk too; and as much as I want to tune out, I am afraid that if I do, I will miss something important. Your Prime Minister has become very popular in the U.S. :-)

We had a quiet Valentine's Day. Work. School. Brought home pizza for dinner. Watched the little one open her gifts from her grandparents. Exchanged cards with hubby (he did get me flowers and I got him a giant KitKat). Went to bed on time because we all had school/work the next day as usual.

I hope you have a good week this week. I'm so glad it's Wednesday and the weekend is coming again.
