Week in Review (19)

Random Thoughts

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mom's out there. I hope you have a wonderful day and are spoiled rotten.

I did some hardcore reading last night, but I still didn't really finish anything this week. I am close, though! I am going to try and read some more after I finish this post. I have to decide what to do for my picture of the day. I saw my mother on Friday and probably won't see her today because she has became a golfer in the last couple weeks and vanishes for hours.

Postcard Project

I sent out some postcards last week, so let me know if you receive them! Hopefully I didn't miss anyone that I promised one to. If you feel like you should have one by a certain point, email me please!

I received three postcards this week:
Massachusetts. While not one of the places I need to have, I am still excited about any and all postcards. Plus, all of my Massachusetts postcards are primarily from Boston and this one is not. Thanks so much Care! I hope you receive your postcard from me soon.
Maryland. This is one of the places I did need for my project, so that brings my numbers up to 33/50. Thanks Meg! I hope you receive your postcard from me soon.
Rhode Island. I also needed this one for my project. That means 34/50 for my total this week. Thanks Charlotte!
I will continue to show any and all postcards I receive in up-coming weeks.

Read More/Blog More - A Monthly Poetry Event

Just a reminder once again that Lu will have Mr. Linky this month and that you should post from May 28 to 31. We will continue to do a bit of a wrap-up post on Fridays. I was also going to announce the poem group read today, but I haven't talked to Lu yet to make up our minds. Expect a separate post!

Trish's Pinterest Challenge

I have finished three projects so far. You can read about them on Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3.

Operation: Use My...

I have managed to take a picture everyday in May. Sometimes it is just for this project, but other days something happens that is worth taking pictures of. I shared a few yesterday, but here are a couple others:
Apple Blossom
Apple Tree Silhouette
Challenge News

I only finished three books, but Code Name Verity counts for the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge. Then, the two Cinderella Fables count for the Once Upon a Time Challenge.

Weekly Reads

I absolutely loved this book and think everyone needs to read it! You can read my review here. (Personal Copy)

This was a reread for me. It was back in 2009 that I had read it for the first time, so decided to refresh my memory before reading the new one. Not really necessary, but still fun. (Personal Copy)

I hate the cover to this book. A hardcore version of Cinderella and she is wearing a bikini? Yes, she has a gun and such, but really, just not a good call for me. I recommend Fables to everyone, but I would hesitate over this one, even though it was good, just because the cover gives a different impression... (Personal Copy)

New Additions

Borrowed:
Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed
I Want my MTV by Craig Marks
Lottery by Patricia Wood
The Girl Who Was on Fire edited by Leah Wilson
The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan

I don't think I got any book mail this week.

  1. Your postcard project sounds cool -- is there a post where you are keeping track of the states you've received?

  2. BTW (sorry to hog the comments) if you still need a postcard from North Carolina later this summer when I go up there, I'd be happy to send one. I did find a post earlier where you'd mentioned the states you had at that point and Georgia was on the list, otherwise I'd send you one from here to help you meet your goal :-)

  3. The postcard project looks like its going well!

And I hate the way women are depicted in comics. However, I love all the gender bending renditions of popular comic covers that show just how ridiculous the poses are. One of my favorites is from a starfire cover. You can see the image here: http://theuniblog.evilspacerobot.com/gender-bending-starfire/

Art aside, the Fables rendition of Cinderella sounds awesome. I'm adding it to my wishlist. :)

  4. I didn't get anything read this week either... I haven't felt much like reading, I guess. I'm hoping to finish a book tonight though.

  5. Yes, I second Melissa--do let us know which states you need (and if you need Washington D.C.). Happy to have helped with Little Rhody!

  6. So much going on with you!! I love your two photos!! I need to be more daring with my photos too but I never seem to spend much time with my camera!! Looks like you got some great postcards!! I love that you're really doing something with all of the things you pin on Pinterest!!

  7. So this is a totally shallow comment on my part, but I must say I much prefer the jacket design on your copy of Code Name Verity than on the US version, which I am watching for--I've added it to my wishlist. By the way--and sorry for not sending an email already--thanks for the very cool postcard of Nova Scotia you sent--it came yesterday in the mail. It's totally cool and I am envious that you live so close to the coast! :)

  8. I actually think the gun-toting bikini Cinderella looks kind of cool, except for the fact that she looks like she's supposed to be in Russia in the middle of the winter and is probably freezing to death. If it's warm enough for the bikini, it's too warm for the fur hat.

  9. Jeez ... you've been busy and productive!!

  10. Code Name Verity has been getting such mixed reviews, but I know that it is going to be one I absolutely love once I finally get around to reading it. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it!
